Mother’s Beauty Secrets
It is possible that the secret tip that has kept your mom looking so pretty all her life gels well with you too because you are carved out of the same clay. Same genes, same skin, same food and same weather conditions. But if these well guarded secrets have worked so well for some women of the same clan, there might be some amount of substance in it. Here we have some of those most treasured beauty secrets debunked. Women who swear by these beauty tips have generously revealed their family heritage to benefit the women at large:
Beauty Tip #1 – Curry leaves for hair: An ancient beauty hack, the paste of curry leaves on hair has been used since generations by women to prevent hair fall and to get healthy and luscious locks. They prevent premature greying and stimulate the growth of hair. Curry leaves are rich in amino acids and antioxidants which prevent hair loss. They also are a rich source of beta carotene which limit hair loss and proteins which prevent hair thinning.
Beauty Tip #2 – Multani Mitti: Multani mitti or Fuller’s Earth is hugely popular for its healing properties against blemishes and acne on the skin. It is very popular in face packs. The high magnesium chloride content helps reduce acne and reduces pigmentation on skin.
Beauty Tip #3 – Special oils: Grannies in many houses make their own concoction of their special beauty oils. They put camphor in coconut oil to cure dandruff. Some put Ayurvedic herbs and ingredients in coconut oil before massaging in on the scalp. When it comes to beauty products, the more natural the better. Most mothers always suggest on using natural products for hair and skin and to stay away from harsh chemicals.
Beauty Tip #4 – A chickpea flour facial: Often oatmeal was used instead of chickpea flour. In this tip, coarsely ground oatmeal or chickpea flour (besan) is mixed with turmeric, lemon, milk fat or curd and this homemade scrub is used on the skin to remove tan, dead skin cells and to rejuvenate the skin.
Beauty Tip #5 – Butter facial: A friend of mine has butter soft skin and on much coaxing, she revealed her family secret of a home made butter facial which has been followed by all the women in her house. The rich milk fat nourishes, moisturizes and softens the skin, making it butter soft. This might not work for women with oily skin.
Such beauty secrets are family heirlooms which are passed lovingly from mothers to daughters.
